I marziani sono rimasti bloccati sul Raccordo Anulare, il
traffico è impazzito. Quali migliori auto possono risolvere questa spinosa
situazione?? Ovviamente le nuove Smart fortwo e forfour che abbiamo ammirato
alla presentazione intergalattica di Roma. Questa volta saliamo a bordo dei due
veicoli che finalmente potrò testare sul pianeta terra.

L’appuntamento è alla Stazione Termini, presso il check
point di Car2go, un’altra iniziativa di Mercedes Benz, che consente di
noleggiare un auto a lungo termine a condizioni molto vantaggiose. Vengo
accolto da due splendide ragazze che registrano i miei dati e mi rilasciano
come “pass” una spilletta con logo della Smart. Raggiungiamo i veicoli e
formiamo un equipaggio di 4 persone, per problemi tecnici non avremo a
disposizione un veicolo a coppia.

Partiamo ovviamente sulla forfour in giro per il centro di
Roma in una giornata nuvolosa ma calda. Tra chiacchiere e risate percorriamo
strade trafficate e vicoli stretti. Lo facciamo di proposito, proprio per verificare
le caratteristiche di citycar. La vettura si dimostra agile e rapida negli spostamenti, nonostante la
presenza all’interno di quattro figuri non proprio esili. Il nuovo motore a tre
cilindri, è nella parte posteriore e reagisce bene ai diversi tipi di guida.
Simuliamo comportamenti al volante che vanno dall’uomo “sportivo” alla mamma
distratta dalla bolgia dei bambini presenti nell’auto. L’impressione di tutti e
quattro alla fine è positiva, siamo soddisfatti. La vettura è bella, funzionale
e ideale per la città, ma non solo. Gli interni bicolore di colore bianco
azzurro risaltano lo stile i sedili sono comodi anche quelli posteriori,
nonostante l’altezza media di questo equipaggio, fosse alta. Per i passeggeri
posteriori, forse i poggiatesta dei sedili davanti sono un po’ eccessivi, non
permettono di guardare di fronte, ma chi lo sa? Magari è solo un espediente per
far farci fare quattro chiacchiere con chi ci è accanto. Dopo esserci alternati
al volante, raggiungiamo l’Osteria delle Coppelle situata nell’omonima e tipica
piazzetta del centro di Roma, con tanto di banco di frutta e verdura che la
rende straordinaria. Un ottimo pasto, quattro chiacchiere ed un caffè, poi
passiamo alla fortwo, il cavallo da battaglia di Smart. Io e il mio compagno di
viaggio osserviamo da vicino la nuova versione. Il cruscotto racchiude il
tachimetro e un display multifunzione, comandato dalla leva delle frecce. Il
volante è ampio ed ha un ottima impugnatura. Simile a quelli di F1, ha infatti,
diversi comandi situati all’interno per gestire tutte le varie funzioni. Al centro
della plancia è piazzato il display multifunzionale da 7 pollici. I motori sono il 70CV 999cc aspirato e tra qualche mese il turbo 90CV 898cc. Il cambio per entrambi i modelli è un 5 marce manuale molto preciso e prestante. Il nuovo cambio automatico robotizzato sarà disponibile il prossimo anno e promette prestazioni molto superiori rispetto a quello attuale. Altra caratteristica fondamentale è il raggio di sterzata, in pochissimo spazio la fortwo riesce ad invertire la marcia con estrema facilità e rapidità. Agli allestimenti, già ricchi dalla versioni di serie, si aggiungono cinque versioni che sono: Youngster; Sport Edition 1; Passion; Proxy e Prime.
Solo per citarne alcuni: servosterzo,dispositivo automatico start/stop, ABS, Crosswind Assist, cerchi in lega e molto molto altro ancora.
Terminiamo la giornata riconsegnando la vettura presso lo scalo di San Lorenzo. In questi edifici ormai in disuso è stata allestita una mostra di arte contemporanea, dei murales realizzati da diversi artisti internazionali, veri capolavori che fanno da cornice ai nuovi modelli Smart, veramente suggestiva. Le nuove smart sono pronte per invadere il mercato, teniamoci pronti perchè sarà difficile resistergli. Ciao a presto, buona strada.

The Martians were stranded on the Ring Road of Rome, the traffic was crazy. Which best car can solve this situation ?? Obviously the new Smart fortwo and forfour that we admired at the presentation in Rome. This time we board the two vehicles that I can finally test on the planet earth.

The appointment is to Termini Station, at the check point of car2go, another initiative of Mercedes Benz, which allows you to rent a car in the long term on very favorable terms. I am greeted by two beautiful girls who register my data and gave met as “pass” a badge with the Smart logo. We reach the vehicles and form a crew of 4, for technical problems we will have a vehicle per couple.

We start the course on the forfour around the center of Rome on a cloudy but hot day. Among chatter and laughtes we cross the busy streets of the town. We do it on purpose, just to verify the characteristics of the city cars. The car is agile and quick in movings, despite the presence of four people not really thin. The new three-cylinder engine, is in the rear and reacts well to different types of driving. We simulate behaviors ranging from the sporty guide man, a Mom distracted from the the children present in the car. The impression of all of us at the end is positive, we are satisfied. The car is beautiful, functional ideal for the city, but not only.The two-tone white and blue internal seats seats are comfortable, although the back seats were despite the height of the crew. For the passengers on the back, the front seat headrests are a bit ‘excessive, do not allow us to look in the face, but who knows? Maybe it’s just a ploy to make us have a chat with our neighbor. After we alternated at the guide we reach the Osteria delle Coppelle located in the homonymous square, complete with of fruits and vegetables stands that makes it extraordinary. A great meal, a chat and a coffee, then we move to the fortwo, the workhorse of Smart. Me and my traveling companion observe closely the new version. The instrument panel contains the speedometer and a multi-function display, controlled by the lever of the arrows. The steering wheel is large and has a good grip. Similar to those of F1, in fact, several controls are situated inside to handle all the various functions. At the center of the instrument panel there is the 7-inch multifunction display. The engines are naturally aspirated 999cc 70CV and in a few months the turbo 898cc 90HP. The change for both models is a 5-speed manual very precise and handsome. The new automatic robot will be available next year and promises much higher performance than the current one. Another key feature is the turning radius, in very little space the fortwo is able to turn around with ease and speed. At the interiors, already rich from the standard versions, they add five versions that are: Youngster; Sport Edition 1; Passion; Proxy and Prime.

To name a few: power steering, automatic start / stop, ABS, Crosswind Assist, alloy wheels and much more.

We end the day giving back the car at the meeting point of San Lorenzo. In these buildings no longer in use was an exhibition of contemporary art, the murals made by various international artists, true masterpieces that frame to the new models of Smart, really impressive. The new smart are ready to flood the market, let’s keep ready because it will be hard to resist. Hello to you soon, good trip.
