We travel to Italy to discover our beautiful country. Here’s what to see in Procida in a weekend. And, in case you didn’t know, it was in Procida that some scenes of the film the postman with Massimo Troisi and Maria Grazia Cucinotta were filmed.
Today I take you to discover a small gem of the Campania archipelago. Here’s what to see in Procida in a weekend.
Less known than Ischia and Capri, however, it is an example of Italian tourist excellence.
I discovered it thanks to my friend Valentina who has a house in Procida with a truly unique view of the Marina di Corricella and Terra Murata. You can admire it in the photo in which I eat the ham while all the other photos were taken from the Terra Murata viewpoint.
What to see in Procida in a weekend?
My friend Valentina, who made us from Cicero (in addition to hosting us), is well rooted in Procida and knows every corner of it.
The main beaches are essentially 4: Chiaia, Chiaiolella, Pozzo Vecchio and Ciraccio. We have seen all 4 of them and they are both reachable by sea and by land. But while Chiaiolella and Pozzo Vecchio are easily accessible, for Chiaia you have to go down 800 very steep steps and remember that they also go uphill !!!
My suggestion is to rent a goiter to go around the island because you will be able to reach many other really delicious coves.
What to see in Procida on a weekend besides the sea? Put on a pair of comfortable shoes and venture into the steep path that leads you to the village of Terra Murata, where the former penitentiary is also located. Here you will find both the castle and the mill. And a crazy view of Marina di Corricella, as you can see from these photos!
To go down you can opt for an endless series of very steep steps, so narrow that only one person passes at a time. It took me about 30 minutes to get them off !!!
In the evening go to Marina di Corricella to enjoy one of the prettiest and most authentic marinas I have ever seen and take an aperitif in one of the many bars there!
Il Postino, the latest film by Massimo Troisi was filmed here
Do you remember the beautiful film the Postman? Massimo Troisi unfortunately died during the shooting at only 38 years old. Some scenes from this poetic film were shot here.
In Marina di Corricella there was the bar of Maria Grazia Cucinotta (which is now the Locanda del Postino) and on the beach of Pozzo Vecchio the second scene was shot in Procida.
The rest was filmed on the island of Salina, another jewel of the Tyrrhenian sea.
If you have never seen this film I suggest you do it because it is pure Italian poetry of course!
