When I started we were very few, today’s fashion influencers over 40 are certainly more and are a great success. We try to understand together what has changed and why it is important to ride this phenomenon.
Before the woman at 30 was already considered old. Now there are even fashion influencers over 40.
In fact, I think I was the first fashion blogger over 40 along with a few other pioneers in Italy and Europe.
When I opened this blog, in 2011, I was 39 years old and it was a miracle that I did not end up on some nasty FB page. I evidently had some saint in Heaven, ops in the den!
In any case, on the blog, acid comments about my age and my physical appearance were flocking, despite the initial photos were largely blurred.
“Grandma” of the fashion bloggers they called me and I was a bit sick. Because I was not feeling that old.
Today the fashion influencers over 40 can always counted on the tip of the fingers but I have never received any unpleasant comments about my age. Why?
Have w,e the pioneers, been able to change the status quo? I’d like to think so, but in reality I think there are other reasons behind it.
The female population is aging and the “millenials”, or women still young and with great spending power, are dangerously close to 40.
That’s why fashion must face this aging process.
The thirty-year-olds are the new teenagers, the forty are the new twenties and 50 is the new 30!
This is why today it is no longer a scandal to be fashion influencers over 40, but it is a real market need.
The apparel and beauty brands know this and invest a lot of their budget on over 40s and 50s.
I am living proof of it, here everyone is trying in some way to get back in shape ah ah ah ah!
Another factor that has largely affected the raise of fashion influencers over 40 is the fact that many of the most popular celebrities are close to 40 or have far exceeded them: just think of Victoria Beckham, Nicole Kidman, Heidi Klum, Naomi Watts, Cate Blanchett that all the stylists want for themselves as testimonials.
The fact is that, fortunately, today the woman after 40 is still good looking and wants to please. It has economic possibilities that a twenty year old does not have and therefore it is definitely the preferred target of the major apparel and cosmetics companies.
And finally …. consider that even the first fashion bloggers are getting old and soon, like me, they will become fashion influencers over 40.
I dare anyone to call Chiara the old woman !!
